Privacy policy
Effective September 6, 2026
1. Who we are
SkyFinder is provided by Codevty (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how the SkyFinder mobile app and this website handle information.
2. Information used for sky guidance
SkyFinder may ask for access to the following device capabilities so its core features can work:
- Precise location: used to calculate where celestial objects appear from your current position and to correct magnetic heading to true north.
- Camera: used to show the live sky view and guidance overlay. SkyFinder does not record or upload photos or video.
- Motion and orientation sensors: used to determine which direction the phone is pointing and guide you toward a selected object.
- Local app data: preferences such as the sky-path display setting and local ad-frequency counters may be stored on your device.
Location readings, camera imagery, and motion or orientation readings are processed on your device for sky guidance. We do not upload these inputs. SkyFinder does not require you to create an account.
Your current GPS location and display preferences are stored locally on your device. Location updates run while you use the sky view. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes locally saved app data. Earlier versions may have stored observation notes; the app no longer offers journaling, reminders, or custom observing locations.
3. Advertising and automatically collected data
SkyFinder is supported by advertising delivered through Google Mobile Ads, including ads supplied through Meta Audience Network mediation. When ads are available, Google and Meta may automatically collect or receive:
- IP address and general location: an IP address may be used to estimate a broad geographic area. SkyFinder does not provide the app’s precise sky-guidance location to these advertising providers.
- App and ad interactions: information such as app launches, ad views, impressions, clicks, and other interactions with advertising.
- Diagnostics: crash, performance, and related technical information used to operate and improve the advertising services.
- Device and advertising identifiers: identifiers such as the Android Advertising ID and device-related identifiers, subject to your device settings and applicable consent choices.
Google and Meta may use this data to deliver and measure ads, provide analytics and reporting, prevent fraud and abuse, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations. Under Google Play’s definitions, this data is shared with those advertising providers, which process it under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your sky-guidance data. Advertising-related sharing may be treated as a sale or sharing under some privacy laws; available choices are provided through the consent flow and Settings.
You can learn more in Google’s Privacy Policy and Meta’s Privacy Policy.
4. Consent and privacy choices
Where required, SkyFinder uses Google’s consent flow before requesting ads. Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. When Google requires an ongoing privacy-options entry point, you can reopen it from SkyFinder’s Settings screen to review or change available consent choices.
You can also limit ad personalization, reset or delete your Advertising ID, and manage other advertising controls in your Android device settings. Your choices may affect ad relevance but do not remove all advertising.
You can deny or revoke camera and location permissions in your device settings. Initial entry requires camera and foreground location permissions. In the sky view, setting camera visibility to zero or using Touch Mode stops the camera. No background location access is requested. You can clear preferences and other locally stored app data by clearing SkyFinder’s storage or uninstalling the app.
5. Information you provide
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address, message, and any attachments. We use it only to respond, provide support, and improve SkyFinder.
6. This website
This static website does not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics, or advertising. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may process limited technical request data such as IP address, browser information, and security signals to deliver and protect the site under its own privacy terms.
7. Data retention and security
Sky calculations, precise location readings, camera imagery, and motion or orientation readings are not retained by us. Advertising providers retain advertising data according to their own policies, legal obligations, and your applicable privacy choices. Support emails are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to address the request, maintain appropriate business records, and meet legal obligations.
Data transmitted to advertising and website service providers is encrypted in transit. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children’s privacy
SkyFinder is a general-audience astronomy utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can address it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We will post the revised policy here and update the effective date above.
